JOAN & JIM HENSEN

Jim was born into the equestrian industry and as a child would learn from the best horseman in Maryland such as Linky Smith, Catherine Bosley Stevens, and Walter “Wassie” Ball. He won countless championships at prestigious shows such as Devon, Penn National and Washington from an early age. Jim has carried this success forward to Texas, where he has been nationally successful, not only in the hunter ring but also in the Grand Prix ring. Jim has won numerous state, zone and national championships over his professional career.

Joan Hensen has focused on bringing horses and riders together to be successful not only statewide but nationally as well. She has accomplished this in spades:

  • Has trained many local, state, zone, and national champions

  • Qualified many equitation riders in the pony and Junior Medal Finals, WIHS and Maclay regional and finals

  • Many Foxglen graduates have ridden on NCEA teams

Coaching is her main focus and has been for over 40 years. Jim and Joan’s passion not only for the industry but the horse and rider is unmatched. Their care of the equine and human athlete and their relationship makes Foxglen a very special place in the equestrian world.
